My parents and their friends didn’t care much about Halloween or Halloween costumes. They didn’t dress up at all. Although they took us trick-or-treating. I always asked myself why grown-ups behave that way when I was a child. Since I was a teenager I felt in love with costumes and spooky dresses. I liked to dress up as villains from scary films like Jason, Freddy Krueger or Leatherface from the Texas chainsaw massacre. I had my fun scaring little kids with these kind of looks but it didn’t take long until I realized that they weren’t very original or special at all.

When I was around 17 I found out for myself that I liked couple costumes quite much. Of course that was the time when I had my first real relationship and I was deep in love. So what could be a better sign that we are together than dressing up with the same costumes for Halloween. Some of our friends made fun of us and thought it was a little bit childish but they changed their opinion when they realized that many adults do just the same. So suddenly we weren’t the only ones that entered the next Halloween party in costumes for couples. Back then many of our friends thought that it was a funny thing and we started to think about costume ideas all together long before the parties began.

The following year couple costumes were the hit in my circle of friends and even their siblings. A whole gang of people was going to the Halloween parties of the following years in Halloween costumes that complemented each other. Occasionally we were in pairs but most of the times we appeared as complete groups of several people. We had all kinds of costumes. Sometimes we dressed up like characters of the fairy tales, sometimes like TV or movie figures but the most fun we had when we all went as superheros from our favourite comic magazines. In any case we had a lot of fun these days and none of us has forgotten the Halloween parties we had then.

We were all teenagers and went to school. We didn’t have much money but we had enough free time to make our costumes by ourselves. Some of us did pretty well in crafting the costumes and we all shared our skills to help each other getting all together. It really became a teamwork project that began several weeks before Halloween was near. Some accessories we bought from Halloween stores because they were to complicated to produce. After the second year we had several costumes that we could combine to new ones so that there was a good supply to create fresh costumes from the previous Halloween costumes.

With Halloween right around the corner, not all of us are always prepared with how we will dress up or dress up our children each year. Sometimes, Halloween is here before we know it and we’ve done nothing to prepare for a costume. Below find some quick and easy Halloween costumes that you can choose from with items just lying around your household.

An American Tourist – Weather permitting, for men, you can wear a bright Hawaiian type of shirt with shorts. If you have a straw hat, that is good too. Don’t forget to put your camera around your neck and you might want to have a map hanging out of your pocket. For girls, find a very loud, brightly colored dress, with a straw hat and camera. Don’t forget the sunglasses!

A Hobo – wear really bummy clothes and dirty up your face with either ashes or makeup. This costume can also be used as a Chimney sweeper.

Coat of Arms – cut the arms off an old jackets or shirts and stuff them with newspaper or plastic grocery bags. Then safety pin them to your coat.

Windblown man – spray your hair back like its being windblown. Take a newspaper and attach it to your leg, like the paper has blown up on your leg. Take a wire hanger and mold it for a headpiece on your head. At the top of it put a hat so that it looks like the hat is blowing off.

Bunch of grapes – use purple or green balloons and safety pin them to your shirt. Cut grape leaves out of construction paper and tape them around your neck after you’ve attached the balloons. Wear a hat that you can affix a stem made out of construction paper to. If you have green or purple tights to match, great, if not, jeans will do just fine.

Basket of Laundry – have an old laundry basket lying around? Cut a hole in the bottom so that you can step through, but make sure the basket will sit on your hips once you pull it over your head. Wear sweat pants and a sweatshirt. Put laundry in the laundry basket once you have it on and attach with safety pins dryer sheets to your sweatshirt. Put some in the laundry basket too

Me and my best friend have an adult halloween party to go to this year. It is going to be mostly couples at the party and we are both singles. We was wanting to go as something kinda together but separate at the same time, if that makes sense. Nothing cheesy. For example, the only idea we have came up with is bat-girl and superwoman. We want more of a sexy costume opposed to a funny one. If you have any ideas besides this one, we would like to hear them!! Thanks!
